What is Pure/G3 Biology?
What exactly is O Level
Pure/G3 Biology?

O Level Pure Biology, syllabus 6093 (renamed to G3 Biology starting 2027) is a full-subject O Level science taken by Sec 3 and Sec 4 students. Unlike Combined Science, Pure Bio students are examined on the complete Cambridge syllabus — making it more rigorous but also worth a full subject grade on the L1R5/L1R4 score.
Sec 3 Topics:
1. Cells
2. Movement of substances
3. Biomolecules
4. Enzymes
5. Nutrition in humans
6. Transport in humans
7. Respiration
8. Excretion
Sec 4 Topics:
11. Infectious diseases
12. Nutrition in plants
13. Transport in plants
14. Organisms and their environment
15. Molecular genetics
16. Reproduction in plants
17. Reproduction in humans
18. Inheritance
9. Homeostasis
10. Nervous system and The Eye
Why students struggle
Why do so many students struggle with Pure/ G3 Biology?
1. Too much content to memorize
Pure Bio has 9 topics with hundreds of key terms, definitions and processes. Students try to brute-force memorise everything — and it does not work under exam conditions.
2. Open-ended questions are unpredictable
Students who understand the content still drop marks on Paper 2 because they do not know how to structure answers. OEQ marking is strict — and school rarely teaches answering technique.
3. Topics feel disconnected
Biology topics link to each other — but most students and even some tutors teach them in isolation. Without the bigger picture, students cannot answer application questions.
How TBT solves each one:
Problem 1 — Too much content
TBT FastTrack System: memory shortcuts and mnemonics built into every lesson. Students learn how to remember, not just what to remember.
Problem 2 — OEQ technique
TBT teaches the FIRED method — a structured answering framework that earns full marks consistently. Practised with real past-year questions in every lesson.
Problem 3 — Seeing the big picture
TBT's lessons are built to show how topics connect. Students develop integrated understanding that application questions test — not just topic-by-topic recall.
The TBT difference
What makes our classes unlike any other

In-depth understanding — not just memorisation
At TBT, concepts are taught in-depth so students understand each topic deeply — how and why biological processes work. This is what makes the difference in application questions.
Memory shortcuts built into every topic
Mr. Keefe and the TBT team have developed mnemonics and memory hacks for every major topic. Students remember content without brute-force repetition.
OEQ answering technique — the FIRED method
Every Paper 2 answer is structured using a tested framework. Students know exactly what to write — and what to leave out — to earn full marks.
Ex-MOE teacher reviewed content
All TBT notes have been reviewed by Ms Ng, an ex-MOE teacher with 11 years of experience. Notes are constantly updated for syllabus accuracy.

Common questions
Questions About O Level Pure/G3 Biology
What is the difference between Pure Biology and Combined Science?
A: Pure Biology is a full subject (Syllabus 6093) with 3 papers (It will be renamed to G3 Biology starting 2027). Combined Science shares exam papers with another subject. Pure Bio carries more weight in the L1R5/L1R4 score and is required for certain post-secondary courses.
+
Is Pure Biology harder than Combined Science?
A: Yes — Pure / G3 Bio covers more content and has stricter marking. But with the right study approach and answering technique, it is very manageable. Despite most TBT students starting below B4, a large majority of TBT students end up scoring B3 or higher.
+
What topics are covered in O Level Pure Biology?
A: These are the main categories of topics, although every school organises them differently: Cell Biology · Biological Molecules · Movement of Substances · Nutrition · Transport · Respiration · Excretion · Nervous System and Coordination · Reproduction. (Cambridge Syllabus 6093)
+
When should my child start Pure Biology tuition?
A: The earlier the better — ideally at the start of Sec 3. But late is better than never. Some students who started in Sec 4, even after prelims, still improved significantly (e.g. C6 to B3). 69.21% of TBT students joined below B4, yet 91% end up scoring B3 or higher in O levels.
+
Does TBT teach Combined Biology students too?
A: No – TBT specialises in Pure / G3 Biology only. This level of focus allows us to develop the best possible materials, techniques and resources specifically for Pure / G3 Biology students.
